Patrick Snijers and Robert Droogmans each with a Ford Sierra Cosworth Gr.A!

Patrick Snijers and Robert Droogmans, fierce rivals throughout the 1980s and 1990s, will reunite this weekend at the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival. Both will be at the wheel of a car that defined their careers: Snijers in a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4WD Gr.A « Bastos » and Droogmans in a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 2WD Gr.A. This promises an exciting event for rally fans.

Alongside Bruno Thiry and Stéphane Prévot, Pascal Gaban, Renaud Verreydt, and Yves Loubet, the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival will welcome two additional prominent rally drivers. In partnership with Gazmot Motorsport and Auto Trends magazine, the organizers are pleased to confirm that Robert Droogmans and Patrick Snijers will each drive a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Gr.A, a car that contributed significantly to their success in the 1990s.

« For this second edition of Rally 4 Passion, we were secretly hoping to bring together our famous Three Musketeers from the 1980s – Robert Droogmans, Patrick Snijers, and Marc Duez. These are three drivers who have shaped Belgian rallying and made rally fans dream for many years », says Yves Matton. “As part of a recent agreement with the Poland Rally Legend for the promotion of our respective festivals, we travelled to Poland, where we naturally met many rally enthusiasts. Among them was Marek Suder, the boss of Gazmot Motorsport, who let Patrick Snijers drive a ‘Bastos’ Ford Sierra Cosworth and who owns a magnificent collection of Ford rally cars. Thanks to his enthusiasm, the project gained momentum.”

Seven-time Belgian rally champion Patrick Snijers remains active, regularly competing in the BRC with a Porsche. At the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival, he will drive the same Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4WD Gr.A with ‘Bastos’ livery as in Poland. Robert Droogmans, a three-time Belgian champion and European runner-up, also drove a Porsche at last year’s event. This year, he will drive a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 2WD Gr.A, a car central to his career. A car that also boasts doubly legendary status, as the Belgian public will be able to admire an equally faithful and powerful replica of the Ford of Marian Bublewicz, a very popular figure in Poland.

Naturally, the organizers of the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival and Yves Matton are delighted with the dual presence: “Robert and Patrick, both first and foremost huge rally enthusiasts, immediately accepted the invitation. And so did Marc Duez. Despite his enthusiasm and determination, he won’t be able to drive Team Gazmot’s third car this weekend. But he promised he’ll try to be there this weekend, both to cheer on his old comrades and to greet the many fans.”

Auto Trends as a partner

This project was made possible in part by the support of Auto Trends, a partner in the entire operation. « The recent publications about Rally 4 Passion on our website, with tens of thousands of views, confirm that rallying remains very popular in Belgium. We are therefore delighted to be joining this project featuring iconic rally drivers and cars », emphasizes Olivier de Wilde, head of the magazine’s sports section. « In only its second edition, Rally 4 Passion has already managed to bring together an impressive field of participants in a region – the Condroz – that boasts a large number of rally enthusiasts. We are delighted to be able to support such an event. »

The public will have the opportunity to see the two Ford Sierra Cosworth Gr.A cars throughout the weekend on 11 demonstration stages. They will also be on display during the ceremonial start and autograph session on Friday afternoon at Place Monseu in Ciney, as well as Saturday morning, shortly after noon and in the early evening in Villers-le-Bouillet, where numerous activities are also planned.

Yves Matton in a Hyundai Accent WRC formerly driven by Loix!

Yves Matton is bringing out one of MY Gallery’s gems for the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival.

WRCs also occupy a major place in rallying history. Before the advent of the current ‘Rally1’ cars, World Rally Cars were the premier class of rallying for nearly 25 years.

Within the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival line-up, the ‘2-litre WRC’ era was already represented by Bertrand Pierrat’s Toyota Corolla WRC. A second WRC from this period will be present this weekend in Huy and Ciney.

And this WRC is not just any WRC, as it is the genuine ex-Loix Hyundai Accent WRC, with which Freddy competed in four rallies in 2002 and 2003 as part of the official Hyundai team, represented at the time by the British MSD team.

A car in perfect condition, part of the MY Gallery collection, which will be brought out for the occasion by Yves Matton, organiser of Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival.

The ex-Neuville DS3 WRC at the start with Xavier Baugnet!

An exceptional car with a rich history at the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival.

In 2012, Thierry Neuville made a name for himself in the premier class of the World Rally Championship by competing in the season in a DS3 WRC with the Citroën Junior World Rally Team. This was an opportunity for him to achieve his first impressive performances in the overall standings.

He secured his first Top 5 finish at the Rally Argentina. At the wheel of the Citroën DS3 WRC that you can admire at the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival! The real, authentic one…

A car that recently joined the MY Gallery collection and has been restored to its most iconic colours, precisely those of the 2012 Rally Argentina.

Already at the start last year in a Ford Fiesta Super2000 with which he put on a great show, Xavier Baugnet will be back this year with an even more powerful and even more fun car.

Much to the delight of fans and spectators at the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival!

The Breittmayer family out in force at Rally 4 Passion!

Peugeot 306 Maxi, Mitsubishi Lancer Gr.A and MG Metro 6R4 Gr.B: the public will be spoiled on 12 and 13 September!

As true enthusiasts of all kinds of competition cars and legendary rally cars, Olivier and Émile Breittmayer could not miss this 2nd edition of Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival.

Better still, the public attending the event will be able to discover two of the most recent acquisitions of the sumptuous Breitt Gallery: a Peugeot 306 Maxi sporting the official livery of Gilles Panizzi at the 1997 Tour de Corse and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo6 Gr.A in Marlboro colours.

« This Peugeot 306 Maxi recently belonged to Thierry Neuville, and we decided to give it what is undoubtedly its most iconic livery, that of Gilles Panizzi’s official car in the 1997 Tour de Corse (editor’s note: where the Frenchman finished on the podium behind Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz’s WRCs). I will have the pleasure of driving it on the roads of Rally 4 Passion,‘ smiles Olivier Breittmayer. ’As for Emile, he will be driving a former Aghini Mitsubishi Lancer from Ralliart Italia.«

This Mitsubishi, often referred to as the Carisma GT, will also sport a well-known livery, the Ralliart/Marlboro of the official Mitsubishi team.
The Breittmayer family will also be bringing along a car that we love to see at Belgian events, Marc Duez’s MG Metro 6R4 Gr.B ‘Belga Team’, which has already been seen at the Spa Rally!
In short, three superb cars that are sure to delight enthusiasts!

An iconic duo returns to the rally stages…

Thiry and Prévot reunite in a Subaru Impreza Gr. A Winfield!

28 years later, history repeats itself… During the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival, Bruno Thiry and Stéphane Prévot will once again be competing side by side in a Subaru Impreza Gr. A in Winfield livery. The iconic duo will be reunited once more, during an event entirely dedicated to the passion and enjoyment of rallying.

Their last collaboration dates back to 2017. That was during the Condroz Rally, when they drove a Citroën DS3 R5 to a top-5 finish. On September 12th and 13th, Bruno Thiry will hear Stéphane Prévot’s voice in his helmet for the first time since then. « I’ve really missed that voice… When someone came up with the idea, I was immediately on board! » says Bruno with a broad smile. « Together with Stéphane, I drove the Winfield Subaru twice in 1997. A Group A-version at Ypres and the S5 WRC at the Condroz. Those are some wonderful memories. I’m as happy as a child to be driving a Subaru with Stéphane again. It’s not the 555 from back then, but it’s still a magnificent car. After all, everyone knows the owner’s talent for decoration. You can count on me to give the spectators as much enjoyment as I’ll get from driving the car! »

Stéphane Prévot is still very active—he’s already competed in almost fifteen rallies this year—and he too didn’t hesitate when the opportunity to drive with Bruno again arose. « Intuitively, my years with Bruno were the best of my career! Years with quite a few ‘firsts,’ too », he explains. « Just yesterday, I spoke with Malcolm Wilson at M-Sport, and we reminisced about all the Ford days, including, of course, that infamous 1995 Tour de Corse. Bruno is the driver who has shaped my career the most. And the context for this reunion is also very pleasant. Goesnes, Ben-Ahin, and even more so, Villers-le-Bouillet: the ‘stages’ of this Rally 4 Passion are really close to home. There may not be a Condroz Rally this year, but we’re still getting a great event with plenty of spectacle. Since there’s no timekeeping, Bruno and I can probably go all out again! » (laughs)

Enseignes Plexi

The fact that this project came to fruition is largely thanks to Julien Elleboudt and his company Enseignes Plexi. The Dinant-based company specializes in vehicle wraps, a wide range of signs, and all types of printed materials. Every year, Enseignes Plexi successfully handles hundreds of projects. It has built a more than solid reputation in the motorsport world. « Our activities extend beyond motorsport and transcend our borders, but I am and will always be a great enthusiast », says Julien. « I’m therefore very happy to be able to take this Subaru out of the garage again. The car has been through the hands of Nicolas Plas and Motorsport International, and I’m already looking forward to seeing it driven by an iconic and passionate duo. It’s not a 555 Prodrive, but a solid Group A, based on the Japanese RA-version used to homologate the rally car. It already has plenty of racing parts and is also equipped with a robust Prodrive gearbox. In short, the ideal car to have fun! »

Julien Elleboudt is a big fan of Rally 4 Passion and was also present last year. He’ll also be running his Ford Escort MkII Gr.4 on September 12th and 13th. « But I don’t know with which livery yet… I’ll find some inspiration! And of course, the show will be the most important thing! »

The start of the adventure

For Yves Matton, the founder of Rally 4 Passion, the reunion of the Thiry-Prévot duo will also be a special moment: “The 1997 Ypres Rally, when Bruno drove the Subaru Gr. A Winfield, was the true start of my professional career in rallying. I accompanied Stéphane Prévot there, and immediately afterwards, I made my debut with Future World at the Condroz Rally, where they won driving the WRC. After having already brought Bruno and Stéphane together in a Citroën at the 2017 Condroz Rally, I’m thrilled to see this happen again now as part of the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival. Everyone will have a great time. Bruno and Stéphane themselves, but certainly the spectators as well.”

The Belga Team will be well represented at Rally 4 Passion

In the 1980s, two major cigarette sponsors fought a fierce advertising battle on the special stages of Belgian rallies. Different times, different customs…

Between Belga and Bastos, it was also something of an arms race, with factory cars entrusted to the greatest drivers of the time: Robert Droogmans, Patrick Snijers and Marc Duez, among others.

At Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival, there will be many cars sporting the Belga livery… In addition to the Porsche 911 SC RS Gr.B Replica ‘Droogmans-Joosten Belga Team 1984’ driven by Britain’s David Jennings and our compatriot Hans Calsius, we will have the pleasure of welcoming two Ford Escort MkII Gr.4 ‘Belga Team’ cars.

Already present last year in an Escort MkI Replica ‘Jochi Kleint’, Tanja Zingelmann-Hartjen will be back this year with a superb Escort MkII Replica ‘Droogmans-Joosten Belga Team 1983’.

In an identical car, we will also have the immense pleasure of welcoming Adrian Fernémont, the two-time Belgian Rally Champion, who will be partnered by the young Martin Lefevre!

In a few days’ time, a fourth car in Belga Team colours will be unveiled… And it will also be a huge treat for rally fans… Stay tuned!

Poland Rally Legend and Rally 4 Passion Join Forces

Scheduled for 29–30 August in Polanica-Zdrój, the Poland Rally Legend will be held for the second time this year. Just like Rally 4 Passion, which will excite Belgian rally fans two weeks later, on 12–13 September, both are historic festivals celebrating the shared passion for rallying in these two countries.

To promote each other’s events, the organisers of the Poland Rally Legend and Rally 4 Passion have decided to join forces and cooperate on various levels.

“Festivals like ours are becoming increasingly popular in Europe. For the second edition of Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival, we already had the support of the Eifel Rallye Festival and the organisers of the Alsace Rallye Festival. We are delighted to now embark on this new cooperation with the Poland Rally Legend,” said Yves Matton, head of the Rally 4 Passion organising team.

A Belgian delegation led by Yves Matton will be present in Polanica-Zdrój on 29–30 August. “We will also be bringing the ex-Kulig Ford Focus WRC from MY Gallery,” continues Matton. “Poland has played an important role in my professional life. The late Janusz Kulig was one of the first foreign drivers to work with Prorace, the team I founded in 1990. I also visited Poland frequently later with the Future World team, which ran a Toyota Corolla WRC for Leszek Kuzaj. More recently, I had the pleasure of working with Robert Kubica while I was at the helm of Citroën Racing.”

“When we created the first edition of our rally a year ago, we never imagined that, just a year later, we would establish cooperation with our friends from Belgium. This is a milestone for both the Polish Rally Legend and the Belgian Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival. We are both in the second edition of our events and need support so that our rallies can grow and proudly promote the history and heritage of the beautiful motorsport discipline of rallying,” said Daniel Trzciński, head of the Poland Rally Legend organising team.

“Working with our Belgian friends is something special, as each of us remembers the fierce battles of Patrick Snijers, Robert Droogmans, Bruno Thiry, and other great drivers on our stages; Belgian teams such as Prorace or Future World; and Belgian co-drivers like Jean-Marc Fortin or Erwin Mombaerts, who competed alongside Krzysztof Hołowczyc and Leszek Kuzaj,” Trzciński continues. “Our special guest during both last year’s and this year’s editions is Patrick Snijers, winner of Rally Poland. And this year, thanks to the courtesy of Yves Matton, we will be able to admire Janusz Kulig’s original Ford Focus WRC, in which he competed in the 2002 Rally Poland. We are happy and believe that our cooperation will last for years, reminding everyone of the important role Belgian motorsport has played in the hearts of Polish fans and drivers. We are driven and united by passion!”

The Poland Rally Legend follows in the footsteps of the famous Rajd Polski in Lower Silesia, south-western Poland, a rally that was long one of the flagship events of the European Championship. It is also an event where Belgians have often excelled. Marc Soulet won in 1988 with a Ford Sierra Cosworth. In 1989 and 1990, Robert Droogmans scored two consecutive victories, first at the wheel of his Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and then with the Lancia Delta Integrale, both cars in Fina colours. In 1993, Droogmans claimed a third victory with a Ford Escort RS Cosworth, a car that would win again the following year with Patrick Snijers at the wheel. In 1997, Snijers repeated the feat, this time with the WRC version of the Ford Escort. Although Bruno Thiry never won in Poland, he finished on the podium twice—in 2000 (Citroën Xsara Kit Car) and in 2003 (Peugeot 206 WRC).

Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival will take place on 12–13 September in the Condroz region, famous for its wonderful stages, known from the Condroz-Huy Rally. The organisers have prepared 118 km of special stages, run over 12 stages in total. The rally is a festival, with no timekeeping. Last year’s participants included Bruno Thiry, Robert Droogmans, Grégoire Munster and Yves Matton.

To encourage participants in the Poland Rally Legend and Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival to take part in both events, a €150 discount on the entry fee will be offered. Entries for the Poland Rally Legend are open until 16 August 2025, and for the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival, eligibility applications close on 5 September.

Yves Loubet set to drive his Alfa GTV6 from the 1986 Boucles de Spa!

Pascal Gaban at the wheel of a Mazda 323 “Replica”. The second edition of the Rally 4 Passion is scheduled for Friday, September 12th, and Saturday, September 13th, and it promises to be an exciting event. Several participants who were impressed by the first edition have already registered, in addition to some prominent names from the rallying world. And that certainly includes Yves Loubet, Pascal Gaban and Pierre Delettre, who together highlight the diversity of the entry list in the categories ‘Original’, ‘Replica’ and ‘Historic’!

The Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival is a must-see event for rally enthusiasts and fans of historic rally cars. The festival will highlight spectacular driving and impressive slides. On September 12th and 13th, festival participants will enjoy a route designed to showcase thrilling performances. The event will kick off with two demonstration stages at Moulin de Solières Show on Friday evening, followed by more demonstration stages on Saturday: Goesnes, Havelange-Clavier, Villers-le-Bouillet, and Ben-Ahin. These names will surely evoke fond memories for many rally fans.

With less than two months until the event, new registration requests are coming in daily. Thanks to the support of dedicated enthusiasts, two notable drivers have confirmed their participation: Yves Loubet and Pascal Gaban. Both of these drivers made significant impacts in the World Rally Championship during the late 1980s and have strong ties to Belgium. Loubet will compete in the original Alfa Romeo GTV6 Gr. A car he drove at the 1986 Boucles de Spa, while Gaban will be at the wheel of a replica of a works Mazda 323 that Hannu Mikkola drove in the 1988 Rally of Portugal, the year Gaban took the Gr. N world title!

The incredible story of Loubet and the Alfa GTV6

Just mentioning the Alfa Romeo GTV6 lights up Yves Loubet’s eyes and quickens his voice: “The story of the Alfa GTV6 is incredible. When my journey with the Alfa GTV6 began in France in 1982, it started as a crazy idea with a few friends. I had already achieved some good results with the Opel Kadett, but it was the Alfa that helped me become a professional driver. My success with the GTV6 Gr. N in France, as part of a promotional cup organized by Alfa Romeo France, allowed me to enter the 1983 Monte Carlo Rally as a factory driver. I competed in a Group A version of the car, originally developed for circuit racing by a famous Belgian tuner, Luigi!”

Loubet finished 15th overall and also won in Group A, after which he enjoyed a successful streak in France for four seasons with this unique car. “In rallying, the GTV6 faced challenges early on, as certain components were not ideal. But its exceptional balance, with a 50/50 weight distribution and a V6 engine mounted behind the front wheels, made it stand out. And who called me on a blue Monday in 1986? Luigi! He suggested I drive his Alfa GTV6 Gr. A in the Boucles de Spa! Competing against powerful Group B cars on snow-covered special stages was no easy feat. However, it’s going to be a huge pleasure to drive the Alfa again at Rally 4 Passion. The car is the real deal! Additionally, I’ll be partnering with Bruno Brissart, a co-driver I’ve worked with in 1994 when he was just starting his career.”

The fact that this incredible story can continue on September 12th and 13th around Huy and Ciney is thanks to passionate enthusiasts, including Léon Plaire, the owner of the Alfa Romeo GTV6 Gr. A. “I’ve always been a devoted fan of Alfa Romeo and motorsports”, Léon admits. “In Belgium, there were only two rally versions of the GTV6 Gr. A: those driven by Gaby Goudezeune and Dany Delettre. When Yves Loubet – my idol, because he was the only one who could really put the Alfa to the test – drove Dany’s GTV6 at Spa in 1986, I promised myself that I would buy the car one day. A year later, the opportunity arose, and I went for it! I’ve long dreamed of letting Yves drive this car again, and I’m thrilled that he’ll have the opportunity at Rally 4 Passion.”

Pierre Delettre also joins the Festival

When you think of Boucles de Spa, Pierre Delettre always comes to mind. During the 1986 Boucles de Spa, Pierre was not yet in charge of the rally he would go on to organize for two decades. “I was still doing an internship with the organization led by my brother Dany, who took over after our father Alphonse passed away in 1984. He organized the 1985 and 1986 editions. Yves Loubet’s participation with the Alfa Romeo that my brother drove the previous year brings back many memories. I even had the chance to experience being a passenger in the GTV6 during a test,” recalls Pierre, who is credited with building the ‘Legend’ concept from the ground up in 2006. “I was also delighted to give Yves the opportunity to drive a replica of the Stratos during the 2011 Legend Boucles de Spa. I’m very pleased to see him in action again at Rally 4 Passion.”

Pierre Delettre will be participating in Rally 4 Passion as well, driving his Ford Escort MkI with Aurélie Van Houdenhove as his co-driver. Delettre stated: « Since I drove my first rally in 2019, I’ve been hooked. Whether competing in VHC or demonstration stages like the Montée Historique du Maquisard, I continue to have a lot of fun with my Escort—a car that I dreamed of owning even as a teenager. »

Pascal Gaban at the wheel of a Mazda 323 Gr. N

During the 1987 Boucles de Spa, the first edition organized by Pierre Delettre, the young Pascal Gaban – fresh off his title as ‘National’ Champion with Porsche – began a successful collaboration with the Mazda Rally Team Belgium. By the end of that season, he secured the Group N title in the ‘Inter’ championship, and the following year, he became the Group N World Champion with his Mazda 323 4WD. During Rally 4 Passion, Pascal Gaban will also drive a Mazda 323 4WD Gr. N, a former Lareppe car. The car was recently restored by its owner, Thierry Quaas, and Nicolas Plas’s Motorsport International team. This Mazda 323 sports the livery of Hannu Mikkola’s works car in the 1988 Rallye du Portugal. In this edition of the Portuguese World Championship round, Pascal Gaban finished eleventh overall and second in Group N. A key result in the campaign that earned him the world title at the end of the season!

« Great memories! Sometimes it’s good to look back on ‘the good old days' », Pascal says with a smile. « We owe this project to Thierry Quaas, a passionate mechanic with whom I’ve worked for a long time. Over the years, I’d found several of my old cars, but I never had the time to properly restore them. This project was a success thanks to Thierry. And because I’m still young in my 60-year-old head, this participation in Rally 4 Passion is just the first step: our goal is to also be at the start of the Monte-Carlo Historique! »

These early announced entries clearly highlight the diverse range of cars that the public and fans can expect at the Rally 4 Passion – Condroz Rally Festival on September 12th and 13th, with Yves Loubet and the Alfa GTV6 Gr. A in the « Original » category, Pascal Gaban with the Mazda 323 4WD Gr. N in the « Replica » category, and Pierre Delettre with his Ford Escort MkI in the « Historic » category.

The comeback of Goesnes

On Saturday, 13 September, Rally 4 Passion will maintain a vigorous pace, featuring a total of ten demonstration stages that are secured and closed to traffic – none of which involve competition. These stages will measure a total of 92 kilometres. The day will kick off in Ciney at 9 am, and the first stage will evoke many fond memories for rally fans. The Goesnes demonstration stage, spanning 8.78 kilometres, begins on the famous section in Pailhe, traversing through the village of Goesnes, towards the iconic Château de Hodoumont.

Next, participants will tackle the Havelange-Clavier demonstration stage (6.00 km), which offers an intriguing mix of roads between the villages of Verlée and Méan, concluding at the Méan football field. The rally then moves on to another classic stage, the Villers-le-Bouillet demonstration stage. At 14.32 kilometres, this is the longest stage of the event, starting with an exciting show section up to the old jump crossroads of Warnant-Dreye, and finishing in Vieux-Waleffe after a passage near Vaux-et-Borset.

The Cabane of the Condroz

The fourth demonstration stage on Saturday, the Ben-Ahin stage, also brings back many fond memories for rally enthusiasts. This stage begins at the Moulin de Solières, once again featuring a mini-show. Participants will then head towards the historic Cabane of the Condroz, famous for its dirt descent which leads to the finish in La Sarte. Two full loops will take place on Saturday, after which participants will return to the service park at Ciney Expo each time.

The third loop will start around 4:30 pm, allowing participants to complete the Goesnes and Villers-le-Bouillet demonstration stages once more. Following the final podium presentation in Solières (just before 7 pm), a traditional closing dinner will take place. This time, this beautiful and convivial finale will be hosted at the Ferme de l’Abbaye de Solières!

Participants can register on the R4ce platform.

Rally4Passion in the spotlight on Boukè !

Last week, the R4P team received a visit from Boukè, the “made in our country” media from Namur. The opportunity for Yves Matton, one of the initiators of the project, to answer Pierre Robert’s questions.
